Firefighters, police officers and emergency medical personnel need to communicate with each other to do their jobs and keep people safe. They rely on portable radios that transmit and receive electromagnetic waves, which are easily disrupted and weakened by walls, floors and other physical barriers, much like a cell phone loses signal indoors.
What an ERRCS does.
An Emergency Responder Radio Communication System (ERRCS) is communication infrastructure, similar to a distributed antenna system, installed within a building specifically to enhance radio coverage for emergency responders.
Because of its critical role, an ERRCS must pass acceptance testing approved by the local authority having jurisdiction (AHJ), such as the fire marshal, to confirm it complies with local and federal requirements before it goes into service.

When is the best time to plan for an ERRCS?
Because an ERRCS is mandated for new buildings, it’s best to plan for it during the design and pre-construction stages.
Engaging our RF engineers early lets us run predictive modeling on your building plans to find potential coverage loss. It also leaves more time to plan every part of the installation, such as conduit infrastructure, space allocation and where the system will be placed.
How do I know if my building needs an ERRCS?
In New York State, Section 510 of the 2020 NYS Fire Code requires new buildings to provide wireless communications for first responders. A building undergoing renovation may also be required to install an ERRCS.
